The Game of Life: Top 5

The Game of Life: Top 5

Life and tennis are synonymous. Play hard, enjoy work, and live fully.
Here are my Top 5 tips for this game we call life!

  1. Work hard, play hard.

No one likes work they don’t enjoy. What happens in a job you dislike? You dread it. You find any excuse to call out sick. You look forward to days end. You look forward to never-ending vacation. But, what would happen if you were employed in something you actually loved? You would feel like you couldn’t wait to get back to the office on Monday. You would feel fulfilled. You would feel like your life had meaning. You can see why I am a tennis coach. I love tennis and what’s better than teaching tennis?! Find something you adore, something that not only pays your bills, but gives you that inner sense of meaning. It’s never too late to reevaluate your career. And, this isn’t the 1950s any more – there’s no rule that says that something you chose to do at 25 is the same thing you need to be doing at 50. If you desire a change a pace to make your life more meaningful, figure out how to do it, and make it a reality.

  1. Be your best.

No one can be you, so why not be the best version of yourself you could be? Take a few moments to think about what makes you you. When you come up with those special qualities, start practicing how to hone them and make them better. There is no one like you around and to live your life the best way you can, you need to be the best version of you. Have a bad habit of biting your nails? It takes 21 days to create a habit, so focus the next 3 weeks on not biting your nails to reverse the bad habit. Do you tend to think of what you’ll say next before the person you’re talking with is done talking? Practice being in the here and now and really focus and concentrate on what your conversation partner is saying.

  1. Engage in your passions.

What are some things you love to do? How often do you do them? Schedule time into your day to make sure you’re doing something, whether for 5 minutes or an hour, that you are passionate about! Love doing lunges? Do some in between phone calls. Love playing tennis? Wake up an hour earlier to get a game in. Want to enjoy your children before they grow up and leave you? Spend extra time with them instead of scrolling Facebook. The whole point of living your life is make it best life you can – you have to enjoy every moment you are on this earth.

  1. Balance

Isn’t that the key to everything? Balance. What happens when we’re unbalanced? We’re unhappy, stressed, our body is painful, our mind gets cloudy. We dread everything. Nothing is fun anymore. But being balanced? Well, that’s a whole different feeling! We become motivated, energized, and enthusiastic! Find your balance. Maybe for you that means getting an extra 30 minutes of sleep or using that 30 minutes to watch some mindless tv. Maybe it’s doing something you love, like rallying a tennis ball around or going for a jog. Whatever your balance looks like, invest in time to really tease out what specifically that means to you.

  1. Find a mentor.

If you’re in a funk, a mentor can help pull you out of it. Your mentor can be your biggest cheerleader! A mentor understands that he/she needs to be a trustworthy and genuine supporter who is tuned into your needs. Find a mentor by networking, practicing your game, or just talking to random people. I love being able to help and advise folks in their games of tennis – there is definitely someone out there who would enjoy the opportunity to be your guide in helping you find the best way to live your life fully.

The game of life is a simple as 1-2-3. Be your biggest advocate and be the best version of yourself you can be.
